The star on top of the Christmas tree is always a special
thing during the Christmas season,
and the Lights of Remembrance star is no exception.
From the beginning, those involved with the project had
thought about having the star represent the animals who are not able
to find a home, or who have been forgotten and abandoned by uncaring
owners, or for those who have tried to make it on their own and met
with misfortune, disease or injury.
In the midst of all this, several special donations came in,
the first from CeCi Tatton, who provided a special contribution and
wrote, "For all the pets who came into the shelter and did not make
it. A special star on the top is for them." It moved the chairwoman
to tears when she opened it. Since that first contribution, several
others have also suggested that the star on the top of the tree
should represent the special animals "who didn't make it."
And so, the star on the top of our Lights of Remembrance tree
is a special star, lovingly hand made just for the occasion. Indeed
it does represent the love we send out and the tears we shed for
those pets that did not make it. As you gaze at the star, we hope
you will offer a prayer for all pets everywhere that provide us with
love, affection and loyalty. May they have a warm, loving forever
home in which to live.
