In 1997, a dogwood tree was planted at the shelter in memory
of our dear friend and Board member, Emily M. Ross. She was a
tireless volunteer who cared deeply about the animals at PAHS. When
she died, the dogwood was planted, seeming to be a fitting tree, at
least by name. Unfortunately, the little tree never thrived in the
circle at the shelter. The rains sat too long and the summer sun
beat down on it. The little tree died the spring of 2007.
After some research and help from the experts, a Norway
Spruce (seen above) was purchased by Emily's mother and brother and sister. We no
longer have a "different" tree dressed in lights for our Lights of
Remembrance, but a typical Christmas tree. This tree will thrive and
reach to the stars. It is bigger now than the dogwood ever was, so
there is room for many more lights.
Please join us on December 6th to light our new tree and
honor the animals that are with us, and remember our friends that
have gone ahead and are patiently waiting. |
